Country 103 - BC Country Music Association Songwriters Seminar



Attention Songwriters

The 3rd Annual Country 103 Songwriters Seminar is scheduled for Saturday,
April 17/10 at The Kamloops Convention Centre, 1250 Rogers Way.

If you are an aspiring or experienced songwriter, from any music genre, we would love to hear from you. All you need is a CD or MP3 File of 2 of your original songs along with 2 sets of typewritten lyrics. We'll also need contact information included so we can let you know whether your submission has been accepted. 

All submissions must be received by no later than 5pm on Monday, March 15/10  and they can be e-mailed to   kelly@country103.ca

All successful applicants will be notified by no later than Wednesday,
March 31/10 by Ron or Sue Irving of the BC Country Music Association who will be conducting the 1 Day Workshop. 

Country 103 will cover the registration costs of all successful submissions and that will include a buffet lunch to be served during the seminar which is described in detail below.

Songwriting Workshop Structure / Itinerary
 
9 AM – 5 PM with Lunch Break
 
Attendees:        Maximum 20   - Entry level to experienced.
Aspiring writers, artists who do write or wish to write their own songs.
 
Morning Session:
Introduction period. Instructors get to know the songwriting levels of attendees, etc.
 
The craft and mechanics of songwriting:
 Structure of the various forms, rhyme schemes, grammatical do’s and don’t’s, conveying a clear message, etc.
 
Writing from a title:
Interactive discussion. Putting thought into the subject matter prior to writing the song.
Song ideas – where do they come from?
Which comes first – the melody or the lyrics?
 
LUNCH BREAK
Afternoon Session
 
 Song Critiques
 
Participants who wish to perform their song (1 only) or have a cd version played will be invited to present them for the critique session where constructive encouragement will be offered using the tools presented in the morning session.   This is interactive with instructors and the group with positive results.
 
The Business of Songwriting

·         Co-writing? When, Why?
·         What does a publisher do?
·         What is a song demo? How good does it have to be?
·         What is a producer?   What is an arranger?
·         Writing for yourself – writing for other artists
